![]() For most people, getting the latest WiFi 6 router and Docsis 3.1 modem won't provide them any notable benefit in how their network performs for the additional cost of the better equipment because they don't push their existing networks hard enough to notice a difference from the better technology. It's also worth noting that the answers in this sub largely come from people in the industry, and we tend to be biased toward more and greater technology. They'll do all things but at the cost of not really excelling at any particular area, and a problem with one function quickly becomes a problem with all - the WiFi failing means you're still offline and replacing the whole device, paying more for another combo unit, or digging through all of the manuals to try and figure out how to set it as a pass through device for the new router you have to buy that negates the savings you got from buying a combo unit in the first place.
